  • Articalizm S/S ‘08

Japan and the UK are both famed for their individual modern styles and high-quality traditional manufacturing. Japanese-English brand Articalizm combine these qualities with influences from Tokyo and London (hence the TYOLDN tag in every garment) and the result is a unique range of clothing with roots in both cultures. A bit like the fashion equivalent of eating fish ‘n’ chips with chopsticks if you like, but a hell of a lot tastier… We’ve featured some of their previous releases here on Slam X Hype before, and now here’s a look at Articalizm’s Spring/Summer 2008 collection. Since the label’s beginnings two years ago the range has grown hugely and now includes t-shirts, hoodies, backpacks and their own range of specially-manufactured caps. Strong graphic prints on bold colours bear witness to a range of influences from hip-hop to hunting, while standout accessories include a woodland camo backpack and fitted caps made from vintage fabrics (indluding floral textiles and even material with an Action Man print). Dipping into the cream of London and Tokyo creativity, Articalizm have also collaborated with like-minded friends such as MVP to add to the collection as well as working with musical colleagues like Chaingang, Dobbeki Q and SpexSavers (currently supporting them in Tokyo). Articalizm products are currently only available at Japanese stockists such as Nomads in Shibuya, Tokyo, but Western readers should keep an eye out as a UK/European launch is imminent…
