Inside Comic Con San Diego
July 30th, 2008 |
San Diego Comic Con is the biggest 4 day long convention open to public that covers everything from obvious comics to tv shows, comic book related movies, cartoons and pretty much anything that has some kind of super or not so super hero feel to it. Vinyl Toys have also been a pretty big part of the SDCC for sometime now, especially this year. Dozens of companies, retail stores, artists and designers gather in very crowded San Diego Convention Center to showcase, sell and preview their latest achievements. Span of Sunset, Inc. is no exception, this year they previewed the very special Red Oswald Vinyl Toy together with Disney which will be available in a couple of weeks. Also a highly awaited collaboration with underground star comic book artist Johnny Ryan whose work one might have seen in Vice Magazine, Rolling Stone and more. Johnny Ryan’s "Angry Youth" stars Loady and Sinus made an appearance in vinyl form and took the Comic Con like a storm with their vinyl zits, baseball bats, dead fish and rather mean attitudes. Look for them in very near future on the store shelves in old fashioned limited quantity. Good people over at Super 7 showed their kaiju side of things and had none other then Pushead himself doing something special. Strange-Co have also set up a camp full of vinyl cuteness, San Francisco flavor of designer vinyl, James Jarvis creations and Tenacious D toys. Our fellow SlamxHype blogger Tim Tsui awed the attendees with all flavors and editions of Da Ape, Lupus, Hope and Da Fighter. Dez got together with XLarge to release SDCC version of Iron Man vinyl. Munky King had all kinds of future releases as well Japanese art Duo Mad Barbarians meet and greet the fans. Mindstyle as always showed a variety creations, up and coming artist projects and Buff Monster had eager fans purchasing his latest vinyl characters. Moving a bit more through the floor one would be amazed by the amount of people in costumes of their favorite heroes, villains, creatures and this years biggest hit – Joker. We probably saw more Jokers than Spider Men, Iron Men, Storm Troopers combined. Hollywood Studios set up their massive booths dedicated to all of the latest comic books turned movies to draw attention of fans and create more lines to wait to get something signed, get freebies or just get a close look at the props. Speaking of props we got to see mind boggling props from Indiana Jones, Terminator, Forbidden Planet, The Shining, Back to the Future, Donnie Darko, Conan the Barbarian and oh so much more all available for sale. What would SDCC be without comics and there was plenty to choose from the selection is overwhelming. With 125.000 people attending SDCC this year, there was something of interest for each and every person. We heard next year will be even bigger. So take a look at the images we compiled from Comic Con San Diego.
