The opening definitely lived up to its immense expectations. Friends and family came in hordes to support this latest endeavor from Westfall, whose last venture in retail, the Comme des Garcons Guerrilla Store +1 213, was a great success. Westfall has taken his artistic approach to his work and has incorporated it seamlessly into this new space. The ample room coupled with the space’s tastefully minimal layout creates many opportunities for installations, which has already been taken advantage of by the store’s proprietor, whose work can currently be seen against one of the east walls. In addition to those pieces from Westfall, his collaborative installation with KZO’s Joel K. was also on display and it was met with much enthusiasm due to the interesting juxtaposition of lush greenery set against the concrete floor. The artistic expression does not end there as the aforementioned jeweler and artist Darcy Miro contributed some of her incredible metal sculptures to the space adding to the gallery-like dimension to the space.

Comme des Garcons’ latest retail space in Tokyo may well surprise and may well not, located in a building that also fields Martin Margiela, Bvlgari and Chanel. Although the extension of innovation you can only admire the creativity and effort the label has put into to engage shoppers.

Entitled the Comme des Garcons Trading Museum, the concept store was an idea conceived by Rei Kawakubo and also features eight display cabinets on loan from London’s Victoria & Albert Museum to give you an idea of how far they have gone to portray the museum feel. To add there will also be an exhibition of hand-blown glass objects from Pieke Bergmans.

Amongst the amazing fit out is an edited selection of Comme des Garcons key pieces, as well as items from British designer Christopher Nemeth, shoes from Daita Kimura and made to measure Comme des Garcons shirts. While a series of vintage Stephen Jones hats and a selection of vintage Comme des Garcons pieces from the past forty years you can feel what implications Rei Kawakubo has gone to, to do something completely new and this is from the person who also conceived the idea of Guerilla stores back in 2005.

Comme Des Garcons Shirt is the Japanese label’s more accessible diffusion line and the current range features a great nylon take on the duffle coat, some simple yet uniquely Comme shirts, a bag and some excellent patchwork style knitwear.  For me shirt is definitely the most versatile Comme Des Garcons range its sensible enough to wear to work, yet fun and casual enough to wear for play.

Comme Des Garcons PLAY will be making it’s debut at Mexico city’s  “Headquarter” store. As a part of “Headquarter” 5th Anniversary the store has gone thru changes and has been rebuilt to house a slew of Japanese brands including Comme Des Garcons PLAY, CDG accessories and selection of  CDG perfumes. PLAY store in particular is presented as a container within the store making it a rather interesting concept and fits well with the aesthetic of the brand as a whole.

Not only has Comme des Garcons BLACK enjoyed time in Aoyama, Tokyo but also Dover Street Market before announcing the imminent installation at colette in Paris. The success was based around special Comme des Garcons SHIRT / SHIRT Girl / BLACK / PLAY items that included numerous collaborations. Set to launch on June 22, this makes for a must see if in Paris.
