In 2008, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe debuted his talent as a sculpture artist, unveiling his cast bronze sculptures at his exhibition at Rogan Botique in Bowery. It seem that he has continued where his first sculptures left off, recently collaborating with Belgian label Maison Martin Margiela on an interesting piece of accessory that aligns well with Martin Margiela’s obscure ‘found art’ approach to design.

The piece is part accessory, part object d’art, and comes in the shape of a mini metal cassette tape equipped with an unraveled tape that serves as a chain. Limited to only 199 pieces, these cassette tape accessories will be available at Margiela boutiques as well as at selected retailers. Take a look at the piece below.

Any trend that takes off as fast as Track Bikes, is likely to move on just as fast. A recent movement towards hybrid BMX/MTB styled bikes seems to be the way forward within this realm, and this is set to be cemented by the release of Giant’s new Bowery FMX. The functionality and design is clear to be seen, and we can look forward to seeing more models over the next few months I imagine.

If you had picked up an copy of THE NEW ORDER issue 2 you would have already seen this quite compelling collection from Off Bowery for Altamont. Aaron Bondaroff, a regular contributor to THE NEW ORDER magazine has used this artist collective to really express the groups creativity through the medium of clothing.

Having collaborated with the eccentric Stephen Sprouse on a rather enlightening collection, Louis Vuitton have followed the roots of the artist and designer by heading downtown for release of this much talked about collection. This week, the company’s boutique on SoHo’s Greene Street will be transformed into a Sprouse destination in time for the collection’s arrival. Continue reading for the story from WWD.

“SoHo is a special place for the entire launch of the Sprouse collection,” said Daniel Lalonde, Louis Vuitton North America president and chief executive officer. “It’s in the proximity of where Stephen Sprouse hung out, so we are going to give the entire store a Stephen Sprouse feel. It will have a lot of reminders of Stephen Sprouse. We will be giving it a new identity.”

For instance, the company is wrapping the store in vinyl and spray painting neon graffiti all over the facade. The window display will feature a 6-foot neon light installation in Sprouse’s Rose motif. The store’s interior, enhanced with black brick wall facing, will also be sprayed with the neon graffiti.

The collection will launch in its entirety at the SoHo boutique on Thursday. The complete worldwide launch will follow on Feb. 2, though the Rose pieces will be available at Louis Vuitton stores worldwide starting Friday.

For the launch, the luxury goods company is also creating two limited edition pieces, which will only be available at the SoHo location: a Stephen Sprouse graffiti skateboard replete with a hard case monogram skateboard trunk, and a Stephen Sprouse “Roses” T-shirt. The company hopes to sell three graffiti skateboards with trunks for $8,250 each, and 70 T-shirts for $250 each. “I don’t expect them to last very long,” Lalonde said. “By Friday, there probably won’t be any more left.”

Proceeds will benefit Free Arts NYC, which provides underserved children throughout New York City with special arts programs. Vuitton is also making an undisclosed donation to the Sprouse Estate, as well as the Stephen Sprouse Memorial Scholarship Fund at the National Academy for Design here.

Sprouse became known in the Eighties for his graffiti art and fashion designs. In 2001, Vuitton artistic director Marc Jacobs collaborated with Sprouse and created an instant must-have accessories collection with the Monogram Graffiti collection. Sprouse died in 2004, and Vuitton made its first donation to the fund in 2006 when Jacobs created a scarf in Sprouse’s honor, using one of the collaboration’s leopard prints.

Vuitton will honor the late artist with three events this Thursday. The night will kick off with cocktails at the Vuitton boutique on Greene Street, with a simultaneous event at nearby Deitch Projects’ Wooster Street Gallery for the opening of the “Rock on Mars” Sprouse retrospective. Afterwards, Vuitton and Jacobs will host a bash at the Bowery Ballroom, featuring a performance by Sprouse’s friend Debbie Harry, followed by DJ Jus Ske. The venue is expected to have a Sprouse feel, with a special graffiti-and-neon decor.

“It’s something new from Vuitton to start the year off,” Lalonde said of the collection. “The product, design, and expression are uplifting and rejuvenating. That’s the feel we try to provide for the evening and for the collection.”

Viewing Punk thus, No One is Innocent (the title comes from the Sex Pistols’ fifth single, post Rotten and Vicious) orients its unique take on this moment around three cities in which it flourished well–New York, Berlin and London–and presents the works of artists alongside album covers, posters, zines and other musical ephemera. From New York, artists such as Lynda Benglis, Robert Longo, Richard Hambleton, Futura, David Wojnarowicz, Tony Oursler, Robert Mapplethorpe and Arturo Vega coalesce around the iconography of the Ramones and Patti Smith; from London, works by Leigh Bowery, COUM Transmissions (Genesis P.
What is the Dustward?
The Dustward is an intangible, intergalactic thread that connects and preserves all cultures, subcultures, secret organizations, and activities important to members of the Almighty Dustward Nation. Evidence of the Dustward is readily available in all aspects of life.

Where is the Dustward located?
Geographically the Dustward is located in an astral plane at the center-point of the pyramid formed between Downtown New York City, Germantown Philadelphia, and 24th Street in San Francisco.

How can I get to the Dustward?
Strong Meditation and Keen Focus. No Busters.

Is the Dustward Art?
No. Art compromises many aspects of the Dustward and members of the Almighty Dustward Nation produce artwork, but art is only one of many levels of the Dustward. You can sometimes find art in museums or galleries.

Is the Almighty Dustward Nation an Art Collective?
No, the Dustward is more than art and the Nation is in no way a collective-It is a NATION. Art collectives are usually found in and around colleges, perhaps you can find one there.

Is the Almighty Dustward Nation and the Dustward the same thing?
No. The Nation is only a small physical manifestation of the Dustward. The Dustward is an expansive force that existed long before the concrete manifestation of the Almighty Dustward Nation. The Nation acts to pay tribute to and propagate the Dustward.

What does the Almighty Dustward Nation do?
What we do is secret.

Is there a way I can become part of the Nation?
No, not right now.

My friend said he is in the Dustward, but I didnt see him on this list of names I saw one time on the internet, is he really in the Dustward?
Maybe. There are many people who represent the Dustward Nation but are not listed on official lists. Its also in the Nations best interest to have a chapter of clandestine membership. Many people not in the A.D.N. created the Dustward. So your friend might not be a liar. Or maybe s/he is, a liar.

My friend is in the Almighty Dustward Nation, but Im not- why?
You need to look in a mirror and ask yourself that question.

Wait what is the Almighty Dustward Nation?
A social club of like minded individuals interested in Community Involvement and Betterment of Modern Society and Culture via the usage of all forms of media, recreation, technology, craftmanship and construction.

Is the Almighty Dustward Nation a political organization?
No, the ADN does not support any political ideiology, except for our motto Do You

Are any musical acts associated with the Almighty Dustward Nation?
Bum Rush, IDT and Drugs Crew

Is there a Dustward Store?
No.

Can I buy a T-shirt for the Dustward?
No.

Can I buy a T-Shirt for the Almighty Dustward Nation?
Yes.

I see people wearing all these t-shirts for hamburger eyes, duffed out, megawords, the dustward and mudd guts, where can I get one?
Theyre out there, but you cant get them. Or can you? Check http://thewormholes.org first, second make your own. Third, contact: info@duffedout.com

Is the Almighty Dustward Nation affiliated with any organizations I should know about?
The Landlords Cycling Club, Happy Hollow Skate Team, Irak Graffiti Gang, and the Wave Terrorists Surf Crew.

Are there any Dustward Publications?
All Almighty Dustward Nation Members produce their own publications most notably Megawords, Hamburger Eyes, and Duffed Out. Almighty Nation Dustward catalogs are available to informed peoples.

I really want to see and or book a Dustward Exhibition, how do I do it?
Email: info@duffedout.com, get your check book out, grab a pen. Proceed.
