White Mountaineering is rapidly becoming a favourite here at slamxhype with  their recent Spring/Summer collection one of their best yet.  However, they have also recently launched the Spring/Summer collection from sister brand, BLK, which takes the brand’s technical  expertise and recreates with a more modernist approach.   Minimal and refined, the collection is almost exclusively in black and features a design aesthetic that sits somewhere between contemporaries Visvim and Undercover.  A refreshing approach to the outdoors look from this rapidly rising Japanese brand.

Moncler and Comme des Garcons continue their running relationship with the announcement of the newly opening Moncler 365 retail concept in Tokyo. The concept store is due to open March 25th and with much talk of late around the new Moncler V collection by Visvim’s Hiroki Nakamura, we can provide you with another look below. The opening definitely lived up to its immense expectations. Friends and family came in hordes to support this latest endeavor from Westfall, whose last venture in retail, the Comme des Garcons Guerrilla Store +1 213, was a great success. Westfall has taken his artistic approach to his work and has incorporated it seamlessly into this new space. The ample room coupled with the space’s tastefully minimal layout creates many opportunities for installations, which has already been taken advantage of by the store’s proprietor, whose work can currently be seen against one of the east walls. In addition to those pieces from Westfall, his collaborative installation with KZO’s Joel K. was also on display and it was met with much enthusiasm due to the interesting juxtaposition of lush greenery set against the concrete floor. The artistic expression does not end there as the aforementioned jeweler and artist Darcy Miro contributed some of her incredible metal sculptures to the space adding to the gallery-like dimension to the space.

Here is a shoe from Visvim that has become quite significant over the past few years, especially as a summer silhouette. The Visvim Logan Deck Lo has this year been provided with a minimal make over with some great colors, as well as accent shades then there is the combination of fabrics with canvas and leather.

Inspired by racing and automobiles, the Visvim Spring/Summer 2010 Collection is another one to admire. Incorporating a lot of stripes on a collection that has a more subdued pallet of colors with some impressive lighter shades. Also the addition of new cuts and footwear is impressive, the Munro Rider’s jacket and Mark II jacket impress along with the shirting and Sea Island Pinstripe crew is great. While the Patrician WT-Folk and new interpretation of the Skagway Lo are very welcoming.

A huge facet of Visvim and Hiroki Nakamura is his ability to transpire his travels and experiences into his collections with great distinction. Having just showcased the collection at Paris fashion week we get a brief look at the core inspiration for the line following a alpine mountain trip. The depth of the collection is transpired to each and every item as Hiroki introduces new and interesting fabrics as well as detailing that represents the trip. This first look showcases a tent created (which is a one off) and a sleeping bag, a very innovative item for the label.

Japanese magazine Sense has given us a preview of what to expect from SOPH for this coming season.  The nautical, workwear and outdoors theme remain strong throughout the range, but added to the mix is a Hawaiian print on shirts, shorts and jackets which brings a  50s surf feel we have seen from a few labels already for this coming summer.  As is usual from SOPH some high concept, yet minimal collaborations from regular partners Visvim and Danner.
