Nike Sportswear have teamed up with Scottish graphic & textile design house Timorous Beasties to create a new limited edition collection for their ACG range.  20 years old Timorous Beasties have gathered much acclaim for their use of 19th century french wallpaper designs juxtaposed with contemporary urban imagery & vistas, naturalist, insect, bird & flower motifs and experimental print techniques and applications, they have aptly been described as ‘William Morris on acid’.

The collaboration consists of a Vertical Shell jacket and a series of printed tees.  The soft shell jacket features ACG Storm-Fit technology resulting in a seamsealed breathable fabric which completely blocks wind and rain penetration at up to 5000mm of water pressure and has a subtle all over, tonal colour on colour Timorous Beasties print.

Air Force 1 Supreme Hi QS;

Inspired by the outdoors and workwear, Nike’s new Air Force 1 Supreme Hi QS are made from a premium quality leather. The upper invokes memories of the crafted leatherwork traditionally used in boots with a deep red/brown. The contrast stitching, two-tone laces, and metal lace holes add to the workmanship feel of the shoe. The Air Force 1 Supreme Hi QS will be available on the 3rd of February at select Nike Sportswear stores.

Nike continues a long running tradition of creating Air Force 1s celebrating Basketball’s annual All-Star game. This year with a subtle design uses premium-perforated leather to give depth and detail to create a simple, clean Air Force 1 Hi. The signature Red, White and Blue of the highly anticipated All-Star Game are represented in a refined heel logo. The shape of the logo draws references from Dallas, Texas, with the Eastern and Western Conferences noted in Blue and Red respectively.

The Air Force 1 Hi Supreme TZ will be available on the 6th of February at select Nike Sportswear stores, a week prior to the festivities of All-Star Weekend.

Women’s Air Force 1 Stud Premium LE QS;

The Air Force 1 hasn’t seen an exclusive women’s release in a while, but this design is worth waiting for. Made from premium quality black leather upper to create a sleek and sharp look. With its subtle detailing, the design minimizes print and embroidery, instead making a mark with its heel rivets and fastening. The rivets add to the shoes dark and sophisticated feel.

The Women’s Air Force 1 Stud Premium LE QS will launch on February 6th at select Nike Sportswear stores.

The Nike Chinese Zodiac New Year series started back to 2002 with the Air Force 1, celebrating the year of the horse. The Year of the Tiger Classic Cortez is the 9th design and the first Cortez shoe adopted in the series. As Nike’s first running shoe, Cortez has been well known for its comfort, lightweight and heritage.

For 2010, the year of the tiger, the Nike designers took a new approach to interpreting the tiger. Instead of using the popular yellow stripe print, they used white tiger to reflect its image of power and prestige in Chinese traditional culture.

The design details include:

• The shoe comes in with snow-white nylon upper and a subtly golden hue silk screened tiger’s stripe print. The same design extends to the sockerliner on which the Chinese New Year (2010.2.14) is dated.

• Chinese characters “寅”(tiger) on Chinese trigrams and “平安” (peace) are imprinted on the shoe tongue.

• The right shoe is finished with a red trim. It is a re-interpretation of the red string worn usually by people born in the year of tiger as a symbol of praying for good luck.

• An extra pair of shoe laces crafted by Starks will go with the shoe.

• The highlighted horsehair gives the shoe a living texture.

The shoe will be available in two different packages: A traditional Nike shoebox or a unique shoebox design limited to 200 pairs only. The limited shoebox is designed with the same inspiration to complement the shoe: white box with tiger stripe prints and Chinese character “寅”(tiger) on Chinese trigrams and “平安” (peace) are embossed on each side of the shoebox. Finally, the five-finger death grip design is used to open the shoebox in true tiger fashion.

The Nike Year of the Tiger Classic Cortez will be available on February 10th with limited shoebox package and on 13th with traditional Nike shoebox at select Nike Sportswear stores in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The Tennis Classic has always been one of Hiroshi Fujiwara’s favorite Nike shoes.  In Holiday 2008 he brought in the low-key vintage interpretation; Nike Tennis Classic Pack in suede featured in four different solid colors.  Last summer, Hiroshi worked with Japanese brand uniform experiment (developed by Hiroshi and Hirofumi Kiyonaga from SOPHNET) on two versions of Air Zoom Tennis Classic: white leather and blue suede.

For spring 2010, Hiroshi picked white upper with slightly shiny leather, mixed with gold foil accents on the heel and tongue. As we have seen in previous seasons, the shoe continues to play with subtlety and minimalism.   The Swoosh design trademark is perforated on the side of the shoe, and the fragment design logo, a Hiroshi trademark used only for Nike project collaborations, quietly placed on the back heel.

Michael Leon’s Commonwealth Stacks is back! One of the best and most respected designers and art directors today, Leon made his name working for other skateboard companies, designing iconic decks and graphics, before the original launch of Commonwealth Stacks. With his move to Nike and the huge role he took with Nike Sportswear and then Nike SB, Michael’s own label took a back foot, but its back with it’s core values intact, and a newly motivated intention to do big things. It wasn’t long ago we previewed the new Nike NY Destroyer’s Varsity Jacket, alongside this fictional team developed by Nike Sportswear’s team of creatives, is a team of New York icons, shot for this campaign. VA$HTIE was on hand to capture the shoot by Kai Regan, which included a number of familar faces, including Scott Campbell. While the video captures the group wearing a special edition all black version of the jacket, you can check out the details of the jacket available at Nike Sportswear’s 21 Mercer Street location here.

The highlight is the played down approach which will certainly be well received by fans of each silhouette.
