Here is a look at Robert Geller’s Fall 2009 Collection which has some remarkable pieces. As expected, we see heavy knits and detailed outerwear but also available this Fall are two-fabric shirts, wet-look trench coats, layering knits, shell paneled leather jackets and four pocket blazers made from looks like a wool blend fabric. I really like this season, especially the two-fabric shirt. You can see the full collection here.

Having taken a look at Robert Geller’s hugely impressive Fall/Winter 2009 collection on more than one occasion, now Blackbird have provided us with a detailed look at some key items. I am a big fan of the distressed fabrics used on much of these items from the Trenchcoat and Bomber to the plaid shirts. Another impressive item that reflects the talent of Geller is the Fencing shirt which is really simple but creates a really nice feel.

Having already previewed the Robert Geller Fall/Winter 2009 Collection from the runway here is a very interesting look book that provides a really interesting angle. The former Marc Jacobs intern has gone on to do great things since beginning his own label in 2007 with a really minimal and elegant aesthetic. “For Fall/Winter 2009, Geller’s collection began with an interest in the imperial city of Vienna at the turn of the century. The color palette is somber, ranging from a dusty rose to a deep black, with touches of Fuchsia, plum and a powerful ultramarine”.

“The fabrics are quite textural and seem to carry a sense of history. Robert used Mohair and alpaca for the knitwear and most of the cut and sew is made from softened Japanese cotton jersey. The outerwear consists of many exclusively developed fabrics, such as Boiled wools, cotton canvases hand painted with a thin layer of polyurethane and a beautiful diamond textured jacquard used in the suiting. Robert also used rubberized denim and dip-died cottons for the more casual garments in the collection”.

Robert Geller’s latest collection is in keeping with the strong Geller aesthetic the designer has built over the past few seasons. There’s a touch of Victorian influence in some of the more formal pieces, but overall the collection is expected and again offering a great selection of menswear classics.

Friday of last week Robert Geller showed his Fall/Winter 2009 Collection in New York. Geller’s collection began with an interest in the imperial city of Vienna at the turn of the century. The city was a cultural melting pot which produced many of the intellectual and artistic impulses that shaped the 20th century. Mostly it is the themes of strength, romance, elegance and curiosity which are all very telling of the atmosphere in Vienna at this time. This relates to Geller’s quest to describe who his ideal man is, how he dresses and what is modern.

The color palette is somber, ranging from a dusty rose to a deep black, with touches of Fuchsia, plum and a powerful ultramarine. The fabrics are quite textural and seem to carry a sense of history. Earlier that day, GQ magazine announced Geller as the winner of the Second Annual “Best New Menswear Designers in America” project. This competitive initiative, established in 2008 in collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), was created to recognize the rising stars of American men’s fashion design.
