Japanese incense connoisseur’s Kuumba International have become a renowned name around the globe. Having worked with the likes of WTAPS to Supreme amongst many more here are two more hugely impressive collaborations to surface. The first is a Incense Burner made of wood and metal in Japan with M&M. The later is one of great interest, featuring NGAP (SKOLOCT) who are known for countless mediums of work from interior design to traditional art and much more. The outcome of the project with NGAP features a custom Skoloct scent and packaging.

Famed Japanese retailer Blackflag who are renowned for hosting labels like WTAPS, RATS, Old Joe, Wacko Maria have teamed up with another favourite of the store in ROCK STEADY. The outcome is a small capsule collection with two theme’s with ‘Good Look’ and ‘Good Book’. The collection consists of tees and a cap which feature all the trimmings we associate with ROCK STEADY.

We recently shared the collaborative collection from WTAPS + Supreme here, which showed us all of the jackets and tees against white background on display. Now, the WTAPS + Supreme collection has been put into a feature by Honeyee entitled ”Inevitable Sessions” which shows the collection in a more editorial light and also features an interview with WTAPS front man Tet, who also styled the shoot below. In my opinion this is one of the finest projects to come from this winter. Seeing WTAPS and Supreme come together is always something of great interest, although this is perhaps there finest hour together. Each entity offers something very unique and while diverse backgrounds you can definitely compare each others approach and philosophy. The collection for this winter includes a reversible melton wool/cotton varsity jacket in two colorways, a melton wool pillow in matching colors and three tees.

Available in-store in the US on December 29th while Japan will have the items available on January 2nd.

WTAPS has long been one of our favourite labels here at SLAMXHYPE, creating each season their own interpretations of classic military pieces alongside a range of unique militia inspired designs. We can now give you a look at a few more pieces from WTAPS’ 2009 Dazed and Confused Collection, including a N-3B Parka, Fedora hat, pants and a nice shawl collar knit.

The release of WTAPS’ N-3B (a.k.a. The Snorkel Parka), has been a highly anticipated one for WTAPS (much like their MA-1 release a few seasons back). Originally created as an extreme cold weather air crew jacket in the early 1950’s for the U.S. Air Force, WTAP’S rendition of the N-3B features a Olive drab color full nylon outer shell over the traditional sage green, a fur hood and other nice detailing like the heavy-duty zips and snap button hand warmer/cigarette pocket. Far from just a N-3B replica, TET has emphasized on creating a better silhouette, fit and comfort of the parka. Take a look at some images of this jacket among other items from this release below.

Ski gear has become a form of inspiration for designers as of late with Bernhard Willhelm creating his whole Fall 2009 menswear collection around the idea, now, inspired by 70’s-80’s ski gear, Japanese brand WTAPS have released their version of with this 100% polyester shell ski jacket available in a khaki green and navy blue with padding and ribbing. Other features include two large pockets with snap button flaps, a single lightening logo on the left chest, tone on tone ribbing on the cuff and waist and the main feature being the back hem featuring a WTAPS’ slogan ‘RISEABOVE’  saddle stitch in light cream color turns this 70’s inspired jacket into a modern twist.

HOODS Hong Kong opened last year creating a big impact on the streets, adding to other Japanese stores F.I.L and Bape all in close proximity. Recently Hoods, who are renowned for holding Neighborhood and WTAPS have relocated to a far more humble setting. The store still boasts the same impact with the typically impressive rustic ambience designed by interior designer and artist Nuts.

Old Joe, a label affiliated to leather crafters Wolf’s Head have set a huge precedence in their short existence producing in really small quantities. One of their very few retailers, Blackflag, which is the renowned position for WTAPS in Aoyama, Tokyo, have teamed up with Old Joe. The project will see this seasons highly coveted Deckhand Jacket available to custom make. With a host of different art work available on this well constructed piece will make for a very exiting release on November 28.

WTAPS current season has been one of my favourite of the year, it hasn’t exactly pushed boundaries but has been successful in taking some of the classic hallmarks of streetwear and producing a really strong, contemporary and varied collection.  The latest drop is no exception presenting a series of printed t-shirt, hoody and 3/4 length baseball shirt, plus a cable-knit shawl collar jumper that will almost certainly be making up part of my winter wardrobe.
