Brooklyn Museum director Arnold Lehman has announced that the smash hit MoCA “Art in the Streets” show will not be coming to the Brooklyn Museum as previously announced. Lehman wrote a letter to the artists explaining the move was due to “severe reductions in financial support that require the Museum to make very tough decisions in light of the challenges facing us in the coming fiscal year. With no major funding in place, we cannot move ahead.” The change of heart has surprised many with the shows curator Jeffrey Deitch having previously worked to raise funds for the show in Brooklyn and “a virtual guarantee of record-breaking crowds would also help offset the costs.” There is still hope however as even though the Brooklyn Museum is no longer an option, fundraising efforts continue in order to help bring the show to New York.
