Banks Violette has made a strong impression with a contemporary approach defined by the use of industrial materials. Diversity is the key to the treatment and the approach to his work with Violette drawing inspiration from a variety of subcultural communities, including hardcore punk and drone metal bands like Sunn O))), political conspiracy theorists, both left and right-wing religious fanatics, and most recently NASCAR and the iconography which populates the sport’s predominantly southern fan base. This latest body of works combines both sculptures and with drafted graphite drawings on paper mounted on aluminum panel. On show now at Blum & Poe, you can see what’s on showcase below or better still make your way over to the gallery.
