Banksy Vs. Robbo Continues

The controversy over Banksy’s latest piece in London covering over a 25 year old piece by fellow graffiti legend Robbo has drawn a lot of attention since the news broke, and has even been covered by the mainstream media.

Well it now seems that Robbo and his crew weren’t happy to let the spat end there and have recently adapted another Banksy piece, taking a swipe at the UK’s most feted street artist.

More Robbo retaliation here.

I find it strange that people are so outraged be either of these artists moves.  Graffiti by its very nature is transient, and Banksy’s work actually brought more acclaim and attention to the forgotten Robbo piece, however, Robbo’s response is creative and humorous and brings an excitement back to the UK graff scene that has been missing for several years now.

Word from the Robbo camp is that “no Banksy is safe”, so expect to see more street critique’s of the stencil artists work soon.

I guess you have to grab every opportunity that comes your way these days, and for Team Robbo, which I'm guessing is a bunch of middle-aged graffers, this means going toe to toe (or towpath) with Banksy. I don't know him, but I would imagine Banksy has seen the funny side. Especially since all this really serves to do is increase Banksy's profile.

this is great for graffitti. I even think Bansky may have calculated this. The fact that we even care about this story means its stimulating. What a way to present street art in it's truest fashion. Amazing…
