“Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids” Exhibition

There is something about he immediacy and rawness of Polaroid images that makes them incredibly intimate and powerful. Andy Warhol understood this better than anyone which is why his Polaroid Big Shot became his favourite tool for capturing the world around him. A new exhibition “Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids” celebrates this. Featuring nearly 250 Polaroids and 75 black and white prints of the images taken by Warhol from 1970 to 1987, plus some of his films from the 1960s, in addition to thousands of other Polaroids featuring celebrity confidantes such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Truman Capote, Dorothy Hamill, Bianca Jagger, Grace Jones, Jack Nicklaus and former Cars vocalist Rick Ocasek, which he used as studies for his silkscreen paintings.

Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids is at the Nasher Museum of Art from 12 November – 21 February 2009.
