Customized Zippos Owned by Soldiers in Vietnam
The Selvedge Yard has presented a fascinating collection of customized Zippo lighters that were owned by Soldiers in Vietnam and became a powerful mechanism to express their frustration, fears, and loathing of the war. At the time these lighters could be bought for just over a dollar and then customized at a Vietnamese jeweler for only 50cents. These symbols were then used a currency, bartered and exchanged for anything from cigarettes, to a night out or the company of a woman.
