Design and architecture magazine Dwell recently visited Mad Men actor Vincent Kartheiser at his Hollywood home, which, surprisingly for a star of his calibre, is tastefully refined and actually quite small. Kartheiser (who plays ad man Pete Campbell in the hit series) teamed up with designer and builder Funn Roberts to convert a 580 square foot cabin into an airy, tranquil abode built with spatial freedom in mind. Working with what Kartheiser calls “Japanese-industrial” style, the pair made use of clean lines and sliding screens to heighten the illusion of space. The original cabin was completely opened up to make one large room with the bathroom and closets along one wall, while the bed descends from the ceiling, creating further room when it isn’t being used. Pulling the top off a table in the courtyard reveals a hidden fireplace underneath, whilst other custom fittings are Roberts’ own designs. Take a look through the desirable home above. (via)
