Five Minutes With Rob Abeyta
Rob Abeyta, who works with the likes of Nike and Stussy has played a huge role in some of my favourite project from the Nike Glide sneaker to the recent Boneyards collection which enjoyed huge success. Lucky enough to catch up with Rob and ask him a few of our statutory questions culminating in a well worth read.
SlamxHype – Whats the best thing about the place you were born?
Rob ABeyta – El Hombre Invisible
SXH – Whats your main consumer vice?
RA – Books. Collectible books. I suppose it’s not unhealthy though, like a real vice.
I like pencils too.
SXH – Which 3 people would you want to have dinner with, if you could eat with anyone?
RA – Jack Henry Abbott, Steve Parrino (RIP) AND Maybe the guy from Patagonia but I can’t decide whether he’s for real or not.
SXH – Whats your favourite website not related to streetwear, art or fashion?
RA – In The Hat Blog… but he hasn’t updated in awhile.
SXH – Best new fashion/streetwear brand of 2008?
RA – I’m not really up on things, I still like the old ones.
SXH – Best song thus far in 2008?
RA – Tyrants, Black Mountain
SXH – Best decade for music?
RA – 1960 -1970
SXH – Best decade for art?
RA – Now plus 10 years. Right now everything is art, and everyone is an artist. It’s great. Philosophically this makes things interesting. Lets hope books may be the next New Era Cap.
SXH – Songs you consider to be timeless?
RA – The World is a Ghetto, Natural High, Demon Cleaner, A National Acrobat, Sabbra Cadabra, Lexicon Devil
SXH – What did you have for breakfast?
RA – Cytosport – Muscle Milk®, Animal Pak, Green Super Food, Steel Cut Oatmeal
