Introducing ‘Dave MacDowell’
My friend and SlamxHype blogger Jeff McMillan and I were rapping out the other day and he put me on to the work of Dave MacDowell and I was really into what I saw. MacDowell creates great depictions of classic movie characters from many great films. A pop-culture ‘who’s who’ can be found with characters from movies such as: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Stand by Me, Mallrats, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Alice in Wonderland, TV’s Lost, and many more.
In addition to the pop-culture aspect of his work, messages, opinions, satirical views are conveyed through a vivid color palette and canvas. In reading an interview posted on the Blah Blah Gallery site, I was able to gain more of an understanding of what is behind his work. His views on the mass media are certainly interesting and make much sense and his ability to put it all out there in painting is something I can definitely appreciate.
You can see a lot more of Dave’s work here at his site. Be sure to check it out.
