This summer Somerset House in London will be hosting an exhibition celebrating 20 years of one of the most feted and creative contemporary designers Mr Martin Margiela.
“20″ will see the London venue work in conjunction with the Mode Museum in Antwerp to showcase works from throughout the career of the mysterious Belgian. Possibly one of he most copied labels around today, you can see the Margiela influence running strongly throughout the fashion world – from the haute couture houses, through streetwear and right down to the high street. Yet despite his ubiquitous appeal he has yet to become a household name, perhaps this is due to his reclusive nature, never being photographed or appearing front of stage at his fashion shows, instead allowing his work to talk for him.
It was recently announced by label owners Diesel that Margiela has actually left the label which bares his name, so this retrospective will serve as a timely reminder of one of the greatest designers of all time. Lets just hope he isn’t doing a Helmut Lang, and is actually preparing a new project to launch soon.
Maison Martin Margiela ‘20’ will be open from June-September 2010.
