Nike 6.0, Converse, Hurley: U.S. Surf Open
Earlier this month, athletes from around the world came to Huntington Beach to compete at the U.S. Surf Open brought to you by Nike 6.0, Hurley, and Converse. It was a weekend filled with fierce competitors as we got to watch not only surf, but skate and BMX as well.
The U.S. Open, a part of the qualification process for the ASP World Tour, is a week-long event filled with action. This year Brett Simpson found himself a two-time, back to back champion, while Nike 6.0 Surf team member Carissa Moore took the women’s honors. And in BMX, oldie but good Ryan Nyquist won first place while in skate, Ben Hatchell dominated the field.
I got a chance to see the behind-the-scenes inner workings of Hurley, Nike 6.0, Nike SB, and Converse. Fun times. Saw a lot, learned a lot, and now I’m looking forward to the new designs.. the innovative Nike 6.0 waterproof fabrics, PRod’s hoodies, and especially the Hurley/Pendleton collaboration. And converse.. that you for the extra arch support in the new modified Chuck Taylors.. I love them.
An event like this reminds how huge the sportswear market it on so many different levels… it also reminds me that I need to start being more active. That way, I have an excuse to buy all the goodies I saw and refrain from the guilt of over indulgence. “What? I need it, it’s good for my health…”
