One Deck of Playing Cards by Tauba Auerbach
Living and working out of New York and San Fransisco, Tauba Auerbach, brings her intense fascination with the origins of language to her art. Raising questions in her work like How does verbal language relate to the symbols used in written language, and do these symbols reveal anything about the structure of the human brain? How arbitrary are the marks, both analog and digital, used to express language, and where do they begin to muck it all up?
Her work intricate and questioning to the viewer, as well as eye catching from a far.
Auerbach has now released two packs of playing cards, created in two iterations, Shapes and Functions. Each deck produced in a hand numbered edition of 250, and available at Project No.8 (No. 8b, 38 Orchard Street (corner of Hester Street)).
