Ryan McGinness recently opened his solo show in Madrid entitled Studio Franchise. Separated into three sections, the show started with a replication of his New York studio, following into a studio full of work in progress and lastly ending with finished works on the wall. Slightly stabbing at the ‘new cycle’ of a modern artists, Ryan McGinness touches on the “Warhol factory sarcasm, the Koons/Murakami/Hirst factory sincerity, and the artist-as-brand reality of today.”
To compliment the exhibition is a book called “Studio Manual”, again, prodding at the re-occurring theme of the commercial approach to re-creating an artist, or in this case, Ryan McGinness.
