SFMoMA's x Gap Tee Shirts featuring Ed Ruscha and Barry McGee

While it may not be cool to be wearing graphic tee shirts right now, wearing works from artists such as Ed Ruscha on your cheast might just be the only exception. To celebrate SFMoMA’s 75th anniversary this year, Gap has produced t-shirts featuring work from eight artists: Ed Ruscha, Larry Sultan, Rosana Castrillo Diaz, Simon Evans, Chris Johanson, Kerry James Marshall, Barry McGee and Leslie Shows, all of whom have had close relationships with the museum over the years.
To further the relationship between San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art, Gap founders Doris and Don Fisher recently announced an agreement to let SFMOMA house the Fishers’ collection of 1,100 pieces of blue-chip contemporary art which includes works by Gerhard Richter, Willem de Kooning and Andy Warhol, for the next 25 years. A major exhibition of the Fisher collection will open in summer 2010.
The shirts, which go on sale today, are $24.50 each and are available at Bay area Gap stores and online at SFMoMA’s store. All proceeds will go to the museum.
