Ekundayo is an artist we at SLAMXHYPE have grown very fond of since first finding his work through a show at Joe Hahn’s SURU last year. A hugely talented artist, about to embark on his first solo exhibition in NYC early next year. Here’s his answers to our introductory questions with BAILOUT in mind.
SLAMXHYPE: Please introduce yourself and what is your background?
EKUNDAYO: My name is Ekundayo IM from all over but HawaII is my home and where i was born. Im the son of a gangster from Inglewood california and my life long ambition is to be free from stress, learn, spread love and if im lucky reach a master level in my craft by the time im 75.
SXH: Can you tell us a bit about your artwork for the show?
E: Well i started feeling like i haven’t been drawing enough lately so I’m working in a style witch incorporates my love for both drawing and painting equally.
SXH: How did you interoperate and execute the title “Bailout”?
E: I look at it like things are teetering on the edge of collapse. Only time will show wether or not the decisions we make today will help or hurt us, not only financially but just with life in general. If things go unchecked for so long we can be in a situation of too little too late.
SXH: What is your take on commercial art?
E: It keeps my lights on.
SXH: How do you plan to celebrate the holidays?
E: In my studio working on my very first solo show in NYC at AD HOC gallery but i also want to relax a little eat some good food chill with the family and be Thankful for all my blessings.
