We live in a world overflowing with creative energy, one in which expressive possibilities are seemingly limitless. So little, however, has the ability to attract more than a momentary glance, much less generate or retain true interest, possibility, amusement.
The work of street and fine artist Bumblebee is atypical. The elusive Californian’s stencils and mixed media sculptures have appeared in and on everything from found wood and pristine canvas to reappropriated news stands and abandoned phone booths.

Bumblebee’s phone booths highlight the importance of social interaction and exchange of ideas. He says, “I want to reuse these structures as a way of communication with the public once more…”

Whilst his versatility lends his artwork a particular vibrancy, this is not the sole reason for Bumblebee’s escalation in global awareness. It is the special message inherent in both his street campaign and fine art which sets it apart from the efforts of his peers.

With a dark, quirky innocence, Bumblebee combines a fragility and exuberance experienced only far too rarely. It is this that engenders such a deep response from his fans and collectors.

On the streets of a city such as Los Angeles, it is a relief to know there is still some simplicity and genuine affection to be found.
