Scheduled to open at Lazarides Gallery in London on the 29th of August is Todd James (aka REAS)‘s new exhibition titled Blood & Treasure. The exhibition will showcase over twenty new paintings, as well as a never-before-seen new animated video.

Todd ‘Reas’ James is one of graffiti art’s venerable statesmen. He was part of the seminal Street market exhibition by Deitch Projects gallery New York that travelled to the Venice Biennale. He has overseen various hit satirical animations including Rap Toons and the high-profile Jack Kirby-influenced Minoriteam which included, amongst others, an afro-haired planet-eating supervillain named Balactus. His latest TV venture is the Henson-esque puppet show Crank Yankers.

Reas’ work effortlessly surfs the everyday and the offensive, and not always together. Personal and socio-political sacred cows are usually the target: Alive with Pleasure, for example, features two chubby hipsters merrily smoking away. But Reas’ portraits of city lifestyles, their hypocrisy and hubris, are not without their charm, as you can see from the likes of Yoga and Yoghurt.”

Blood & Treasure will open from the 29th of August through till the September 28th. Check out Reas’ website here.
