In this short film, Portland-based production company Cineastas offer an insightful look into the life and work of bladesmith Murray Carter. Originally from Halifax Nova Scotia, Carter found a strong calling to Japanese culture after visiting the country in his teens as an avid karate fan. Whilst there, a chance meeting led him to strike up a relationship with a traditional Japanese bladesmith named Yasayuki Yoshimoto, a master of the craft and 16th generation holder of the Yoshimoto bladesmithing tradition. This led to Carter apprenticing with Yoshimoto for six years, before founding his own company and becoming the 17th generation of the fabled bladesmithing chapter. Press play for an excellent portrayal of not just the craft, but of the spirit with which Carter approaches it.
