Which Rappers Would Famous Painters Listen To? DJ Green Lantern Weighs In.
Presented By Boost Mobile
If there’s one thing DJ Green Lantern knows, it’s which rappers people enjoy listening to. The man has not only curated some of the most legendary mixtapes, but has produced hits for the likes of Jadakiss and Nas, plus DJ’ed at mega-clubs around the world and gotten dance floors dripping sweat. The bottom line is, he knows what everybody likes.
In honor of Art Basel taking over our hearts/ minds/ Instagram feeds last week, we sat down with the legendary tastemaker to find out what rappers he thinks famous artists would listen to, and why. ENJOY.
Van Gogh: “He would have been into Lil Wayne. Lean is the new Absinthe!”
Picasso: “He would have loved Lupe Fiasco. Picasso was an artist’s artist. They say he had most of his art in his possession (versus being sold) when he died.”
Basquiat: “He would have liked Gunplay. Raw, no rules, somewhat maniacal at times. It fits the vibe of what Basquiat did as an artist.”
Keith Haring: “Oh man, Keith Haring would’ve loved Pharrell. The colors and shapes Haring used could almost serve as a visual landscape for Pharell’s incredible but often quirky and fun music.”
Monet: “He would have dug Ross. Hashtag ‘Beard Gang.'”
Thinking about Van Gogh in a nightclub loving some Weezy is an image you should try to keep in your brain forever.
Thank you DJ Green Lantern, thank you.
