Currently on exhibit at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami is an exhibition by Chicago based artist, Dzine (Carlos Rolon). From site-specific wall installations to his “pimped-out” Cadillac Fleetwood to shimmering Swarovski Crystals, Dzine’s energetic manifestation of colors, patterns, textures, and sounds fuse into a modern phenomenon that reveals a vibrant mixture of street-art, op-art, and Chicano “Lowrider” culture which he describes as “custom car culture on steroids“, embracing the cultural paradigm of his work around the Chicano Lowrider culture as “creating an amazing piece, not for money, but [for] pride, ego and identity.”
Former graffiti artist, Dzine has been able to bolster the semantics of this genre by stretching the boundaries further and bringing never seen before products to the table. His use of precious stones, neon-lights, and motorized machinery has opened up a unique vernacular to contemporary art. The exhibition will run through till February 21, 2010.
