Haynes Owners Workshop Manuals
John Haynes wrote and published his first book, on building an Austin 7 Special, whilst he was still at school in 1956. He wrote two more ‘Special’ manuals while doing his National Service in the RAF. The first ‘proper’ Haynes Owners Workshop Manual, for the Austin Healey ‘Frogeye’ Sprite, was published in 1965. These classic manuals set the standard for many generations of manuals to follow.
The automotive vehicle manuals are based upon taking apart and putting together a vehicle. The cover of each manual states:”based on a complete teardown and rebuild”. Each section has step-by-step instructions with diagrams and photographs of an actual teardown or rebuild.
A great selection of deadstock manuals are available at London’s Present, from Ford Mustang 1964-1978 through to the Land Rover 1958-1985 and a whole lot in between.
