Acclaimed artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel has announced that he plans to open a gallery on the ground floor of his West Village home. The “community exhibition space” will show work by other artists and enable Schnabel to work with like-minded people with “unique perspectives on art”. Casa del Popolo, as it will be called, will open next Tuesday 18 June, with new paintings by British artist Nick Mead, curated by Schnabel’s girlfriend, May Anderson, who was previously Assistant Director of The Hole gallery.
