Takashi Murakami: Healing Powers
Nowness shares an insightful interview with the ‘explosive master of color’, Takashi Murakami, in the above video. In much his current work, seen exhibited here at LA’s Blum & Poe gallery, Murakami has explored concepts like spirituality and healing – a departure from the darker themes he has often projected in the past. This, as he explains, has a lot to do with the Fukushima disaster that took place in his home country not so long ago, and explicitly the impact that this event has had on the children of Japan. Besides his gallery work, Murakami recently premiered Jellyfish Eyes, his new feature film that provides a fantastical angle on the very human narrative of a young boy mourning the death of his father. If you’re a fan of Murakami, take a look at the video above for the artist’s personal reflection on all of this.
