The Autumn Urban Art Sale at Dreweatts
Last night saw the Dreweatts Autumn Urban Art Sale take place at the Shoreditch Studios in London. Whilst some have speculated that perhaps the market for this art movement has stalled, there were still a few surprises in store. The final selling price list makes for interesting reading, with several major pieces selling for well under their estimates – and several exceeding expectations. Many of the Banksy, Adam Neate and D*Face results were as-expected, but there were a few bargains by other more established and influential graffiti writers and street artists. The Jose Parla watercolor on offer proved to be a wise purchase, with signed copies of his recent ‘Adaptation/Translation’ Elms Lesters book selling for £1200+ on the secondary market.
The art world may have put this genre on ice for the moment, but with a few interesting rumours of forthcoming sales and new galleries opening, it will be interesting to see how things move forwards.
