Style Feature | 16.03.10

Spring is coming sooner rather than later, warmer during the day, but still chilly at night. I can see from my window, the sun is out, but I guarantee when I step outside the New York chill won’t have left us yet, still need a warm layer to heat through.

Visvim “A Cycle of Craftsmanship” film by Young Kim
March 16th 10, 6:21
Visvim “A Cycle of Craftsmanship” film by Young Kim, is a look at Visvim’s newest store in Kyoto. Opened last year in a 400 year old Kyo-Ningyo (Kyoto Doll) shop, Visvim founder Hiroki Nakamura wanted to keep the history of the store alive, having seen it now move on from its 16 generations of family owners and proud tradition. Behind the glass walls of the store, you can still see much of the same store, and stock, before Visvim, and for those not able to make it to Kyoto, Visvim felt it necessary to show the rest of the world just how amazing this store and its history is. Coming together with Suitman AKA Young Kim, they have produced this great film showcasing the store and its new family Visvim. I was lucky enough to see this film last year and can’t tell you just how good it is, available now at F.I.L stores, I can’t recommend it enough.

Scott Campbell ‘If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long’ in NYC
March 15th 10, 7:26
Without a doubt one of the most uniquely inspiring artists today, Scott Campbell’s ‘If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long’ will be the Brooklyn based artists first solo show in NYC, presenting a selection of sculptures, paintings and drawings. If the preview image is anything to go by, this could be one of the most exciting shows of 2010.
“Campbell has the taken the blue collar grit and lore of tattoo culture and extracted a visual language and wit that are supremely refined and deliberate. His uncanny ability to tell a story with any medium, flesh or otherwise, will be on display for his upcoming exhibition, If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long, which will feature all new work.
In April of 2009, Campbell held his first solo exhibition at OHWOW – Miami to much critical acclaim. He has also been featured in group exhibitions at Macro Future Gallery in Rome, Italy, The Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Centre in Greece, The Massimo Carasi Gallery in Milan, Italy, Colette in France, Moeller Snow Gallery in New York, and OHWOW during Art Basel Miami Beach 2008 and 2009.”
Opening Reception Thursday, April 29, 2010 6 – 9pm
