Rapper Big Pooh x Black Milk – “The Purple Tape” EP
January 12th 10, 12:26

When Detroit’s Black Milk released “Music from the Color Purple” last year as a free project it was pretty evident that the small project could become something larger with the right vocals applied. Insert Rapper Big Pooh 1/2 of the North Carolina Duo Little Brother who thought highly enough of the project to turn it into a something of his own completely sanctioned by Black Milk himself, we don’t condone stealing around here. The final project “The Purple Tape” is again a free project which acts as a precursor to the Pooh’s sophomore project ”Dirty Pretty Things” which is set to release later this year. Now I may be a bit bias as a avid Prince fan, but you can not deny the sheer creativity of Black Milk and his chops when it comes to some of the familiar tracks we all know from the movie “Purple Rain”. Pooh provides that extra something which turns your standard mixtape into a solid body of work.

Diplo Presents: “Free Gucci” Mixtape
January 12th 10, 1:01

I must add a small disclaimer before I write this post. I have recently became a Gucci Mane supporter after a recent interview he gave before his latest incarceration bid. His story, frighteningly genuine and yet relatable, spoke to me and I quickly found myself scrambling to catch up on the music the man has feverously put out in between his “rehabilitation” stints.
Now the music, the man behind Mad Decent and avid support of Gucci Mane, Diplo, surely wasn’t going to let the recent work of Gucci go by the wayside as he went up north for a bit. With help from a interesting support cast including Flying Lotus, Zomby, Memory Tapes, and EMYND, the “Best of the Cold War Mixtapes” was brought to life, as some of Gucci’s work was given a new sound bringing his name into even more household. While others might not appreciate the re-workings, as a new Gucci listener they work for me and hearing Flying Lotus’ interpretation of anything isn’t a bad look. Listen, decide for yourself, and Free Gucci BURRR.

Union “Into The Wild” Photo Editoral Preview
January 8th 10, 11:38
When presented with the opportunity to showcase the latest project from the Union LA team we immediately hopped on board. “Into The Wild” captures the spirit and direction we’re seeing from many brands today; the Outdoor’s, Americana, and Naval inspired themed wears have taken over the casual looks dominated in yesteryears by athletic, dayglo, and military. A sense of refinement is now being pushed highlighted by this years Fall/Winter offerings. Union took advantage of this “push” by amassing a great editor piece offerings a glimpse of what their current inventory has transformed into.

The settings, mood, compositions, and styling all hit their target’s, and the added humor brings the personality of the Union LA cast to those who haven’t had the privilege of meeting Mr. Chris Gibbs, Ryno, or the few others face to face. The Full editorial will be in upcoming issue of The New Order one you can not miss. Congrats on a well executed shoot guys.

Homeroom Docks & Piers Shortened Peacoat
December 9th 09, 20:01
Often overlooked by its contemporaries, Homeroom continues to produce garments at a level of quality, and sophistication rarely seen from American label and we commend them for that. Their latest collection entitled “American Rejects” takes its cues from the blue collar works of the 30’s and 50’s, a reflection on nostalgic Americana wear. Overlooked by the social elite as hardworking laborer’s, your pier workers, miners, and everyday men are saluted by this collection.

These principles are evident in the Docks & Piers Shorten Peacoat, a modern take on the classic naval piece. Made of California wool with leather work from San Fransisco, the piece’s modern detailing and silhouette are welcomed revisions. As a brand matures its always interesting to see what direction it will take with its succeeding collections. Homeroom seems to be headed in a direction commonly seen, as workwear has taken to the masses, it will be interesting to see how they will continue to distinguish their pieces from those of other heritage brands.

For the first time Marvel Studios has authorized an original customized version of one of their beloved characters by allowing SILLY THING founder TK and Hot Toys to recreate Iron Man’s Mark III battle suit. Utilizing the previously released 1/6 Mark III model, TK recreated a battle-damaged colorway of the figure which tested the production and construction of the piece as the tailer-made paint job would not adhere to the base Mark III plastic forcing each piece of the figure to be recreated from scratch. The figure has a release date set for July 4th, 2009 and will carry a price tag of $1,280 US. Its availability will be limited to THINK SILLY HK.
