His new solo exhibit opens Friday, November 20th, at Quint Contemporary Art in San Diego and the title, “Bigger, Brighter, Bolder”, says it all about these stunning new paintings, which explore expanded themes and an energized color palette. The Thousands
November 14th 09, 12:54

The last time we talked to you about The Thousands was in August, back before it even had a name! Now, with less than a week to go, RJ from Vandalog is hard at work putting the final touches on the show, which will feature mostly privately owned work from Os Gemeos, Banksy, Barry McGee, Know Hope, KAWS, Swoon, Chris Stain, Herakut, Shepard Fairey, Faile and more.
The Thousands, which opens on November 18th at Village Underground in London, has also been documented in a fantastic book entitled The Thousands: Painting Outside, Breaking In. Order your copy from Drago.
RJ gave us an exclusive look at this awesome Barry McGee for the show – Untitled 2, 2008, Installation of 11 Elements, Acrylic on Wood Panels, 123×96cm, Courtesy of Barry McGee via CircleCulture Gallery. Check out some more sneak peeks below, then make sure to see it all in person if you can next week!

Barry McGee & Phil Frost | mindthegap Exhibition
November 13th 09, 1:33

Last week, SlamxHype let you know about mindthegap, Barry McGee and Phil Frost’s exhibition at Prism, LA’s most exciting new gallery. I checked out the preview tonight and was really impressed by what I saw. With a space designed by award-winning architectural design firm PATTERNS and an inaugural show curated by RVCA founder PM Tenore, co-owners Jared Najjar and PC Valmorbida are definitely off to a good start.

Not only is Prism is a fun addition to the Sunset Strip, it’s great to see more galleries sprouting out here that support the urban art scene. Says Australian born PC, “We are trying to close the gap between blue chip art and street art and make it accessible to everyone. When I first came to Los Angeles, it struck me that there was less activity here than in New York and there was some room for a place like this. I want to attract a lot of young people. It’s not your conventional, stuffy art gallery.” It’s definitely far from that. If you’re a Beautiful Losers fan and anywhere near LA between now and February 20th, you have got to check Prism out.

Check out the preview images below and make sure to come along tonight if you can as Timothy’s work is particularly lovely in person. Dan Witz | Dark Doings | Carmichael Gallery
November 5th 09, 11:10

Brooklyn artist Dan Witz opens his first major LA show at Carmichael Gallery tonight, Thursday November 5th. The exhibit, Dark Doings, showcases a selection of pieces from his expansive summer street project of the same name. Created both for the street and gallery, the subtle, haunting images of human and animal faces trapped behind dirty glass windows are inspired by a recent visit earlier in the year to the red light district of Amsterdam. Dark Doings runs through December 3rd.

With a career that dates back to the 1970s, Dan Witz is one of the most prolific artists working on the streets of New York City today. Some of the most influential voices in the street art scene have commented on his importance, both personally and globally.
“It was Dan Witz who first showed us how powerful street art could be. Each summer, Dan’s projects take street art to new levels by adding elements of “surprise and delight” into the city landscape. For us, Dan Witz is the consummate street artist. He’s provocative. He’s dedicated. And most of all – He has absolutely wicked skills.”
- Marc and Sara Schiller (Wooster Collective)
“Dan Witz is a true pioneer of the street art movement. What makes Dan so special is his true passion and love for street art. As many artists on the streets have come and gone over the years, Dan has remained true to the craft and has kept his work alive on the streets since he began over 3 decades ago. I don’t know any other street artists that have been at it that long.”
- FAILE

See prep for the show here.

Aakash Nihalani and Know Hope brighten up the streets of Vienna during the Blk River Festival.

If you look really closely, you can make out Know Hope’s little paper raindrops falling from the hole in Aakash’s top square.

Clever remix of a classic Banksy image.

Some info about Kenji/the Barnstormers for those not so familiar:
