    Here is a look at the Fall/Winter Collection from the New York label Engineered Garments, The impressive collection is designed with reference to traditional American sportswear, outdoor clothing and military uniform. Following the brand’s philosophy of "Engineering" their collection rather than simply "designing". The collection includes an array of items ranging from vests, and gumboots, to plaid shirts and a wide variety of knits, giving it a rather post-modernist & decontructive look and feel. Put together by Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki, who has been mesmorized by the unique and finely detailed appeal of American Sportswear since growing up in Japan, Engineered Garments is a label to keep an eye out for in the years to come.   • Fuji Fixed Gear Art Exhibition/Auction

    With the Fixie movement in full swing particularly in the Arts and design scene, here is an interesting Art exhibition/ Auction and nicely combine the two fields. Hosted by Fuji Bikes, Jinxed Clothing and Reload Bags the art show/auction Opens at MediaBureau in Philadelphia this weekend on Friday the 1st of August.

    "Fuji donated 20 track frames to 20 emerging artists to customize for the show. 10 percent of proceeds will be donated to Neighborhood Bike Works, a grassroots cooperative which runs an after school outreach program based in West Philadelphia helping neighborhood kids learn about and build their own bikes.

    Among the artists participating are: Chris Yormick, Adam Wallacavage, Norm, Greg Lamarche, Ben Woodward, Paul Romano, and Isaac Bushkin (whose frame is shown.) "

  • Patti Smith ‘Dream of Life’ Documentary Movie Premiers

    A Documentary film on Patti Smith, one of the most important person in influencing the birth of punk rock,  titled ‘Dream of Life’ is scheduled to premier next week on the 6th of August at the Film Forum in New York, The documentary film provides an intimate look at the life of the legendary poet, artist, mother, singer and performer. Known for introducing 19th century French Poety to American teens of the 70’s, incorporating a beat poetry performance style with three-chord rock. The film is directed by Steven Sebring, and will be viewable at the New York Film Forum until the 19th of August.

    Draplin Project, is a new documentary about American Graphic Designer, Aaron James ‘Draplin’. Watch the teaser here, I’m sure there are alot of people who agree. The price of professional services such as this is something that I feel needs some sort of balance built into it. If you pay an amazing designer to create something, then its in eveyones best interest to pay top dollar, but if your work is spat out of a production line without any thought, and companies believe they can charge the same as something who’s put art and soul into their work, then somethings wrong. Its the tip of the iceberg really, but the teaser gives us something to think about.

  • New California Graffiti Law

    A new law has been passed in California this week making those convicted of Vandalism responsible not only to clean the tagged surfaces they were convicted of, but in some cases to be responsible for keeping the surface clean for one year!

    Leading up to the introduction of this new law is a increase in Graffiti on the streets of California, which was backed up by this statement “Racs said graffiti was increasing partly because it is celebrated on the Internet.” Not sure what to say about this? Ummm.. sorry?
