El Haloef de Soq D’Juliana
April 23rd 09, 7:53

Ask anyone you know who has ever experienced Amsterdam on Queensnight/day (and lives to speak about it), and they will surely tell you it was one epic clusterfuck of music, people and fun (and on certain occasions, excessive usage of very alcoholic beverages and drugs in all colors). I doubt this year will be any different, at least not on our part. Tickets are available at Patta and Löfel & Burke. Like previous years they’ll probably be gone faster than sound (Hi Janis Joplin). No hookups and such, do what you gotta do! Tickets on sale at Patta now while they last…

Subway Art 25th
April 21st 09, 17:24
I remember it like it was yesterday: I was just a little whippersnapper when the older guys on the ‘pleintje’ (neighborhood square) brought out some new book that they had just shoplifted from the bookstore and it had all these marvelous pictures in it. Up until then I had seen graffiti on walls and such, but none of it ever excited as much attention as what I was looking at over their shoulders right then and there. Page after page, neatly captured and layed out, whole cars decorated top to bottom with huge colorful letters and characters. This left a marked impression not only on me, but also on thousands and thousands of kids worldwide, what a visual impact! Subway Art, of course, would later become the aerosol bible basically. This important piece of work by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant now celebrates it’s 25th anniversary in a large-scale deluxe format and you should have a copy of it on your shelves… Just don’t shoplift it.

Upper echelon raps. The Thornton brothers redeem themselves after giving the people that Re-Up aural clusterfuck on Koch. My man Gwar is still mad and rightfully so, but with production from the good old Neps and spiritual leader Rick Rubin lined up for “Til the Casket Drops”, forgiveness should be well on it’s way.

Parra Soundsystem – Edit Niaf
April 20th 09, 9:56
So in a drunk state of mind (blame it on the a-a-a-a-alcohol) my mans Trago and Parra been handing out copies of this little edit album they made under Parra Soundsystem called “Edit Niaf”. Half of Amsterdam already got it, but here it is in all it’s edit glory for the rest of the world to add to their iTunes.

21:9
April 19th 09, 5:50
Created for Tribal DDB, Amsterdam, the interactive campaign promotes Philips’ latest entrant into the tv market, the Cinema 21:9. Since the television’s 21:9 frame lends itself so readily to film, Tribal DDB, Amsterdam commissioned Stink Digital to create a piece of filmed content that could hold its own with Hollywood’s best.
The film, titled Carousel, is the centerpiece of the project. On its own, it clocks in at a (coincidental) two minutes and 19 seconds, but Berg conceived it to work as an endless loop. Visitors to the microsite therefore have the option to ‘spin’ through the film’s single take shot repeatedly, to stop on a specific frame, or to watch it at the preordained speed. The film also contains embedded hotspots, which, when triggered, transport the viewer seamlessly from the heavily posted film to a behind-the-scenes version of the same shot. This constant moving between two layers of reality proved one of the project’s biggest and most ambitious production challenges. Other details of the online execution play off the cinematic theme; the microsite’s loader doubles as a credit sequence, while rich media takeover banners drive traffic to the site by teasing viewers with an original Carousel trailer.

Dreadless Holiday
April 18th 09, 14:02
Dreads are heavy matted coils of hair which form by themselves, eventually fusing together to form a single dread. Kinda like hybrid Nikes. This is possible in all hair types if the hair is allowed to grow naturally without combing or using conditioner for a long period of time. However, they can also be intentionally formed as well through backcombing the hair into dreadlocks (or more commonly in the Americas and West-Indies by twisting).

There are many reasons among various cultures for wearing locks. Locks can be an expression of deep religious or spiritual convictions, a manifestation of ethnic pride, a political statement, or be simply a fashion preference.
Dreadlocks are associated most closely with the Rastafari movement, but people from many groups in history have worn them, including the Hindu Shiva worshippers of India, wealthy members of ancient Egyptian society, pre-Christian European peoples and some superstar DJ’s.
My man Rich Medina got rid of his sometime ago, and now it’s time for Mr. Wix to end his soul journey and embark on another:

Notte Sento
April 12th 09, 10:30

Every picture tells a story (no Rod Stewart). Well what if you have over 4500 pictures?
http://www.vimeo.com/2078991 Read More
Notte Sento is a stop motion short film by Daniele Napolitano (Cut), made with 4500+ still photographs shot with a photocamera (a Canon EOS 30D for the photography geeks out there). Notte Sento tells the story of a P.Y.T. who has missed her train to Milano and is set to wait overnight in Roma until dawn. A chance encounter with some random bloke changes her plans and the night lights of the capital turn into the background of a romantic story. -

Not metal, not auburn, not World of Warcraft. It’s Gary Warnett from the other side of the channel. Sneaker cult followers should already be familiar with him or at least have read some of the bad ass Crooked Tongues paragraphs he types on his worn out Macbook keys. Not bad as in Gildan t-shirts after 1 wash either, but Victor Maitland-type bad ass. The way he analyses and breaks down footwear never fails to entertain me, partly attributable to his vast knowledge of music and overall cult shit, which he always manages to squeeze into a review or newspiece. I mean, as a healthy heterosexual male you just got to get your Mutley-chuckle on and give that nod of recognition when you see “Sneaker” and “Private” mentioned in the same sentence. Adult entertainment, stand up! Long entry short, be sure to frequently visit his blog right here on SXH. And be sure not to miss the New Balance Quotes-post, classic. Word to Jennifer Love.

I turned 34 last saturday and received a box of Monkey Mints!

Furthermore I consumed the following: sugarsnaps, babycorn, ha kau, steamed oyster, coquilles st. jacques, softshell crabs, peking duck wraps, carpaccio, yaki sake sashimi, yaki meguro sashimi, yukimi daifu, chicken baagaa, szechuan beef, china lobster and Moët & Chandon at Orbit restaurant & lounge. Definitely worth a visit (plug).PS. The all new Mixin (now paired with “Creativity”) website relaunched on the same day and put a 34 year old rabbit in the headlight. (Dutch only)
