Picture China by Dan Eckstein
August 11th 08, 21:40

China has been the focal point of the world at the moment since the Olympics have started. It has been a very pleasant distraction, as the games represent all that is beautiful about competition on a worldwide level. The imagery presented by network TV has been awe-inspiring, but New York based photographer, Dan Eckstein, has presented us with a more raw view into China’s landscape. The photos range from the Tibetan plateau, the demolished traditional Beijing neighborhoods known as the Hutongs, and other views of life in China. To see more of in depth look at Eckstein’s work, click here. Thanks to Cool Hunting for heads up.

Keiichi Nitta’s “I Think Japanese People Should Be More Open” Exhibition
August 11th 08, 21:00

Keiichi Nitta is widely known as the right-hand man to renowned photographer Terry Richardson. Based in New York City in the six years he spent with Richardson, Nitta absorbed all that his international exploration engulfed him with: transcultural notions of beauty, fetishism of fashion and sexuality, and ultimately his inherent ability to grip moments in time to capture images that are unmistakably “Keiichi.” His images do not reside within the usual preconceived contexts of photographic notions—rather, they are caught in forms of space and time, where (and when) eroticism does not need to equate to sex, beauty can be both relative and irrelevant, and his own reflections captivate instant relations with the viewer. Now having returned to Tokyo, Nitta’s artistic influence burgeons not only in Japan, but internationally as well. He has worked for publications such as Vogue, Elle, Nylon and Vice, as well as designers such as Anna Sui, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Hysteric Glamour and Undercover. Nitta brings his work for the first time to the U.S. His exhibition entitled “I Think Japanese People Should Be More Open” includes exclusive new prints (editions of one) as well as his own wall installation. This exciting showcase will set The Constant Gallery alight on September 6 so make sure you keep that date free especially with Nitta’s presence on the night which is also another highlight.

Neal Adams, Joe Kubert, and Stan Lee Team Up to Tell The Tale of Dina Gottliebova Babbitt
August 11th 08, 12:25

Comic book legends: Neal Adams, Joe Kubert, and Stan Lee, have joined forces to tell the story of one, Dina Gottliebova Babbitt, who was a holocaust survivor that used her artistic talent to paing portraits for the infamous “Angel of Death” Dr. Josef Mengele. Babbitt painted watercolor portraits for the evil Nazi doctor for 2 years, with some of those paintings actually surviving. Those paintings are now in the hand of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Museam in Poland, but Babbitt has wanted them back for a good while now, and the museum refuses to part with them. After numerous attempts and petitions to retrieve her work, a 6-page comic has been produced with drawings and contributions from the aforementioned comic book legends. The book, illustrated by Adams, shows a time line of events of Babbitt’s experiences and why she was chosen to paint portraits of prisoners of the notorious concentration camp. The comic has been presented to major comic book companies in hopes of getting it published, but nothing has come to fruition as of now. Here is it is courtesy of the New York Times.

Lupe’s love for the brand has been made very evident through his numerous mentions of them in his written works. The culmination of that friendship took center stage late last year when Le Messie produced a track entitled Fighters feat. Matthew Santos for Lupe’s highly revered “The Cool” album.
The duo and Lupe Fiasco’s friendship go back to before the rapper was a house hold name when they invited him as their guest to a design conference in Singapore. The collective effort of this magnitude is a testament to the realness and friendship that they have garnered over the years. Lupe has recently worked with other prominent figures in the industry on this scale including Dr Romanelli, Swagger & Maharishi.
The website is currently in countdown mode and looks to launch in about 5 weeks time.
