The Blissful Buddha (Sittin’ on Chrome) 2010, is a natural extension of my ongoing response to popular culture through use of baroque elements, post-conceptual methods, romanticism, craft making, and appropriation.

Made with pearlized magenta auto-body paint,Swarovski crystal embellished resin flowers, fiberglass base with mounted speakers (with custom audio installation), fabric and mirror.

Nike & Saint Alfred invite you to join us in celebration of Chicago artist Dzine’s opening night at Six Points, a new Nike and Saint Alfred retail partnership fusing art, music and fashion. The retail space is located 1529 N. Milwaukee and is now focused on the World Cup and soccer. Featuring Nike Sportswear collections, Saint Alfred and Nike Co-Lab pieces, exclusive artist collaborations, soccer licensed product and special events.

Each month, the space features designs by well-known national and international artists. This month Dzine has created new work exclusively for the space. Also available are limited-edition screen prints made by the artist for tees and other products through an on-site customization process that enables visitors to work directly with St. Alfred designers.

Launch Event and Opening reception tomorrow:

Friday June 4th 7 – 11 pm

Early arrival is suggested – 21+ over only

Food courtesy of Nuevo Leon, Chicago and complimentary beer and wine will be served.

A portion of the proceeds from the price of each customized Dzine T-shirt (that comes with a customized engraved keychain produced by the artist) will be donated directly to Franklin Fine Arts Center, an elementary magnet school within the Chicago Public School system. Franklin Fine Arts Center promotes academic and artistic excellence for all students. The school provides instruction in art, drama, music, dance and piano. The school community embraces racial, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity and provides a safe, supportive, and student-centered environment with the goal of developing intelligent, caring, and responsible citizens.

Dzine exhibition “Voodoo” at Krinzinger Projekte, Vienna

“For his first solo exhibition with Galerie Krinzinger, Dzine presented an exhibition consisting of a unique custom bicycle sculpture, a video installation, a sculptural drawing, and photographs – a new medium within his body of work. Each piece is inspired by and partially produced on the Dutch Island of Curaçao, during Dzine’s residency at the Instituto Buena Bista Curaçao Center for Contemporary Art. The presentation is a unique combination of mediums, which capture the spirit of incorporating the technique of “Swaybar,” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sway_bar) on handmade bicycle frames, then dangerously used on hillside slopes. A new phenomenon that is unique to the youth of Curaçao, and never previously documented or viewed outside of the Island.”

One of my favorite shops.

This crew knows their stuff – everything from hard to find kicks, custom kicks, yet to be released kicks… shit… kicks that havent even been thought of yet.

I never thought of myself as a connoisseur, but Krabby and the staff at St. Alfreds are so genuine and passionate about what they do, its a pleasure to shop their and easy to become an official sneaker head. They even hooked up Paolo, my nine year old, with the hard to come by “Nike Dunk Low Denim Hulk” .

Lastly, they hold it down by bringing in items that people blog about weeks later (like me).

A very genuine crew of people.
