The latest issue of Scoute — one of my favorite magazines (online or print) – is up and running with another issue stacked with rich content. My favorite section is the feature on the photography of Michael Kenna. Kenna’s work is really stunning as he captures some beautiful landscape imagery from some of his favorite photo destinations in which he frequents and as you can see, they definitely yield some amazing photographs. Check inside to see a few of the images courtesy of Scoute and Michael Kenna. Read the rest of this entry »
Perennial newsmaker Damien Hirst will have an exhibition to cap things off this year at the Fabrik gallery in Hong Kong. The show will feature new works by the contemporary artist and it will end the year quite nicely for the Hong Kong establishment. This has been an amazing year for Hirst to say the least with the headlines made from his auctions at Sotheby’s and for his work in general, so if you are in HK, make it a point to check this show out. The exhibition opens on December 4th and it will remain open until December 14th. Read the rest of this entry »
Hyde-SK will see a big change in terms of materials used for their Spring/Summer 09 offerings. Sascha Knight will turn to Lorica, which is an animal friendly alternative to leather. Hand-made bags and accessories will make use of this material and they will be presented in all sorts of colors and with distince patterns. Take a look at some images after the jump. You MUST see this amazing video of Blu in action in Berlin. The time-lapse video captures the awesomeness by Blu and friends as they paint this gargantuan painting of a man bound by gold accessories. Really good stuff! Check a larger size video after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
Take a look at this interesting 3-way painting collaboration involving our own Jeff McMillan, Pete Wentz, and Travis McCoy. I do not know a whole lot about the actual painting, but as you can see, McMillan represented with his classic Yetti character. The abominable one is right up in the mix against the really pleasant mix of purples. Check the image after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
This week’s Introducing will not be about a person, fashion label, or business; it will serve as an introduction to the newest tab featured here on our site. The ‘Solidified’ tab will contain news and information regarding special events and projects produced by us. As we announced earlier in the week, we will be producing events on a worldwide scale that showcase our love for art and culture. With the help of Nike Sportswear, BLENDS, Oakley, and Span of Sunset, we have been able to put together the “Bailout” group show featuring some of the most important artists in our world today, as well as emerging talents, all of which have become regular fixtures within the pages of SlamxHype. Robert Geller has released this soundly designed Souvenir Jacket. It features some great design detailing such as the leather accenting placed along side the front zipper and up and down the backside. In addition to the leather detailing, more can be found along side of the zipper and the shoulder area. Even though the jacket is black and can be perceived as “another black jacket,” the detailing definitely sets it apart from other similar cut jackets. Check the images after the jump. Black Friday is the day known for waking up at the crack of dawn (or in some cases camping out for a couple of nights prior) for all the after Thanksgiving Day deals, but at sneaker boutique Undefeated – along with Stussy and Union – put together a little something different to get you out of your turkey (or tofurkey) hangover this year. There was a party at the 3 shops and it was all for a good cause. All that was asked of you was to bring some canned goods and you would get 25% discount on many of the items in all 3 stores and if you were early (which I wasn’t unfortunately) you would also get a pair of the limited edition Converse/Undftd Chuck Taylors. There were live DJs including a set by DJ AM, who ripped it on the ones and twos. They were also selling a limited edition UNDFTD/DJ AM tee shirt with all the proceeds going to the Los Angeles Mission (as well as the canned goods). Read the rest of this entry »
