Dr.Strangelove
March 4th 09, 19:58
To my shame i’d never seen Stanley Kubrick’s film “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” until yesterday that is. One word: Brilliant. Definitely one of the best movies ever made. Do yourself a favor: Netflix it, buy it, pirate it, whatever. Best hour and half you’ll ever spend.
Your Commie has no regard for human life, not even of his own. For this reason men, I want to impress upon you the need for extreme watchfulness. The enemy may come individually, or in strength. He may even appear in the form of our own troops. But however we must stop him. We must not allow him to gain entrance to this base. Now, I’m going to give you three simple rules: First, trust no one, whatever his uniform or rank, unless he is known to you personally; Second, anyone or anything that approaches within 200 yards of the perimeter is to be fired upon; Third, if in doubt, shoot first then ask questions later. I would sooner accept a few casualties through accidents rather losing the entire base and its personnel through carelessness. Any variation of these rules must come from me personally. Any variation on these rules must come from me personally. Now, men, in conclusion, I would like to say that, in the two years it has been my privilege to be your commanding officer, I have always expected the best from you, and you have never given me anything less than that. Today, the nation is counting on us. We’re not going to let them down. Good luck to you all.

Hype
February 25th 09, 17:49
Last Saturday i went to The Constant Gallery to check out Bill McMullen’s art show called “Hype, Hustle, Rip-Off’ and boy was i in for a treat. Bill McMullen is actually a friend and Span of Sunset, Inc. did a Vinyl toy with him a couple of years ago called AD-AT which was probably one of the very first Vinyl toys that was produced and manufactured by USA based company in the sea of vinyl toys from Hong-Kong at the time. AD-AT proved to be a very successful piece and to this day collectors are seeking for it. Good times! Anyway, i kinda knew what to expect from the show as I’ve seen previews from the show, but what i saw was pretty darn amazing! His “brand wars” camo suits and camo paintings were a huge surprise, the R2D2 ghettoblaster, Wooden audio systems, paintings…just wow. A lot of good people including some familiars from Slamxhype family were in attendance. Snapped a bunch of photos check them out bellow. Also there is a Flickr page full of good photos from the opening night.

After so many years of contemplation and failed starts Quentin Tarantino is full on at work on his latest film set during WW2 era titled ” Inglourious Basterds” (misspelling is intentional). “In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.” Synopsis via IMDB. Trailer looks promising, be sure to watch the whole thing.

Edward Albee
February 12th 09, 18:47
I had a rare opportunity to see Mr. Edward Albee speak at UCLA last Saturday. The man is a legendary playwright who is responsible for the most flopped and most loved, critically acclaimed plays in Broadway’s history. One maybe familiar with his works such as “The America Dream”, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”, “The Play about a Baby”. Edward is very sharp and well spoken for the 81 year old man, he gave so much wisdom and food for the brain it was just… You know, sometimes when you read something in the good book, or hear someone bright speak, you get the feeling like it speaks directly to you and it’s the greatest thought you’ve ever had, that sudden moment of clarity? That’s what it was like to listen to him, truly inspiring. Anyway read up on Edward Albee here and make sure to watch the video bellow.
