You don’t really become interested in collecting and furniture until you have a house. But even in my shitty college dorm room I was a fan of Jean Prouve’. Mr. Prouve’ was a French architect and designer (1901-1984) who is very collected now, but his desks and furniture were industrial and found in prefabricated buildings, schools and institutions. Best known for the evolution of the “standard” chair , his buildings and designs demonstrate his approach to simplicity and sheet metal construction. I love that his approach was complex yet so pure and simple.
You can view his show at MOMA NY thru March 2009.
