Finally, after nearly a year, we have just released our November Juxtapoz, the special tribute to contemporary African art. Check that cover up there; where else would you find a hybrid-antelope-human being creature with knives, guns, hammers, fox heads, and prison fencing all in one image? In Jane Alexander’s artwork, is probably the one place. Jane did our newsstand cover for this issue, and because we have admired her from afar for a long time now, getting the South African-based artist on the cover was ideal. Also, getting Wangechi Mutu, whom I got to meet in Manhattan this summer, on the subscriber cover was a must, and as you can see below, her work is some of the best in the world today. I also want to say thank you to Youssef Nabil, Mikhael Subotzky, and Ghada Amer for letting me interview them for this issue.

Also, a big thank you to Simon Njami, the world’s leading contemporary African art curator, who was responsible for the groundbreaking “Africa Remix” exhibit, for guest editing this issue, and for writing the opening essay. That essay is large, upping the ante for this entire issue. We are extremely proud that Simon did this article and this issue with us. And his pieces on Jane Alexander and Pascale Tayou are top.

Pick it up, read it, this is a major piece of art.
