Renowned artist and photographer David LaChapelle has created this fitting body of works that will open today, Valentines Day. Entitled “Earth Laughs in Flowers,” LaChappelle draws in inspiration from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s poem Hamatreya with the ten large-scale images depicting the earth’s flowers ridicule man’s arrogant belief that he holds a permanent and indestructible dominion over the earth he walks on. Combining skulls, flowers and fruit as Baroque imagery, this makes for a compelling installation from the American artist and one that should not be missed.

Street artist André Saraiva is perhaps best known for the creation of his “Mr. A” character which was featured last year in the award winning documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop”. He made his own directorial debut in 2011 with his short film, “The Shoe,” co-starring Leo Fitzpatrick and Annabelle Dexter-Jones. Saraiva has exhibited all over the world including shows at Colette, Palais de Tokyo and Air de Paris where he showed his love graffiti for the first time. For MOCA’s landmark “Art in the Streets” show, he tagged up the museum’s bathrooms with his colorful graffiti. André’s show “Love Letters” at half gallery — his first solo exhibition in New York — will include paintings on french letter boxes which he used to paint all over Paris and love notes on stationery, a somewhat anachronistic celebration of communication so closely tied to the romantic. “Love Letters” will be exhibited at half gallery from February 11th until March 1st.

The Stussy Spring 2012 collection includes a series of t-shirts by Dutch artist Parra. Parra is best known for his curved post-Pop imagery, highly saturated colors, vibrant hand-drawn letters and worlds inhabited by hybrid, surreal characters. Celebrated by galleries and championed by an underground following from the outset, Parra has quickly become a respected and eclectic artist worldwide. Working across drawing, painting, animation and sculpture, Parra creates an enigmatic and instantly recognizable style that defies easy categorization. Parra is co-founder of cult apparel label Rockwell Clothing and a member of electronic music collective Le Le. Check out this interview with Parra from his Amsterdam studio.

We’ve seen numerous previews over the past year of this special edition watch series which celebrates the lives and momentous accomplishments of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzig Norgay. The Rolex Hillary Tenzing Edition Explorer Set includes 36mm, 39mm, and 42mm Rolex Explorer watches, as well as a mix of accompanying accessories; a silver mountaineering pin, a limited HTE edition copy of Everest by the late George Band, and an original leather bound 1953 expedition route to Everest.

I won’t pretent to express a deep seeded knowledge of the tattoo world but I have a great appreciation for high level beautifully defined work. A true artists’ artwork will speak to you no matter the medium it is bound to, and this is the case when it comes to the work of tattoo artist Jun Cha. Tutored under the watchful eye of some of traditional black and white tattoo’s legendary artist Baby Ray, and Jose Lopez although young in age, his work speaks of a man much wiser and sharper. His talents have taken him from his Los Angeles base to across the globe with an recent trip to Paris standing as the subject for his latest photo essay. His work stands on its own and his direction and focus is unparalleled.

Back in 2009 New York graffiti legend Eric Haze was commissioned by Stussy’s Las Vegas store to paint a giant wall piece in their retail space. This recently released video by Stussy documents the process by Haze. Be sure to stop by the shop next time you’re in town. Enjoy!
