Video & film director Mark Pellingtons upcoming feature has released its first teaser featuring an emotional Thomas Jane split screened with some gorgeous imagery.  While the film is still in pre production stages the teaser shows great promise.

Pellington decided to make the film after considering why his generations  version of Cassavetes “Husbands” and films of that ilk haven’t been made.  A great question and hopefully this is the answer.

Late last year in D.C., I ran into my friend Yosi Sergant. He had moved out to Washington after his successful “Manifest Hope” campaign for Obama and taken a job within his ranks. But after an interior fall out, he was making his way back home to Los Angeles and on his agenda was to raise awareness against Prop. 8. I recall his regret for not helping more when Prop. 8 had failed the LGBT community. I remember him saying that he should have done more, but couldn’t because he was focused on “White House issues”. But what I will never forget is looking at Yosi as he explained to me exactly what he was going to do. Using art as his medium once again, he would take this muddled social issue and make it into a powerful visual people could understand. He was determined and when he got home, he hit the ground running.

Under six themes: Equality, Justice, Respect, Civil Rights, Unity, and Love, Manifest Equality brings together artists such as Barry McGee, Swoon, Robbie Conal, Jim Goldberg, and 100 more, creating and donating art to help educate the masses. Yosi, Apple Via and Jennifer Gross pooled their resources, knowledge, and rolodexes to spread the word. From Marisa Tomei to Heather Graham, Jason Lee to Daryl Hannah, the list goes on as they came to the opening night to lend their name and their support for the unrestricted equality for all Americans.

The most touching part of the evening had to be Cleve Jones, activist and friend of slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk. His impassioned speech brought many to tears. His words and his actions, remind us that the fight is not over, and won’t be till we take a stand. We can change the world, but we can only do so if we act.

I think we forget the transgressions we have faced as a race, and we went through to slowly overcome our obstacles. I think we forget those, like the LGBT, who fight everyday for their own rights. Let’s try not to forget.

You can’t help who you love, and shouldn’t hate or judge because their love seems different compared to yours. Love is Love.

Not exactly a household name, Arthur Russell is one of the most influential musicians and producers to emerge from the downtown New York music scene of the 70s and 80s, a new book on him entitled “Hold On To Your Dreams”by Tim Lawrence has just been released and to celebrate the Italian launch Stussy have created a special pack featuring an exclusive t-shirt.  Limited to only 50 editions the shirt features artwork from one of the composers many releases.  It will be available at Stussy Milan from December 16th, where there will also be a photographic exhibition dedicated to this great man

Hugely prolific Russell’s work spanned a mass of genre’s from classical to disco via indie, punk, electro, hip-hop and modern contemporary music. He was responsible for massive disco hits like “it’s all over my face” by Loose Joints and ‘treehouse” by Indian Ocean and he was a key player in The Loft and Paradise Garage disco scenes that would later go on to spawn house and disco.  Not content with success on the dancefloor the classically trained cellist also worked with modern contemporary classical and minimalist composers such as Philip Glass as well as new wave and punk acts like Talking Heads, the Modern Lovers and Jah Wobble.  His ground breaking work in bringing the avant garde into popular music can still be felt can still be felt today in the music from acts like LCD Soundsytem, Aphex Twin, Animal Collectie and Franz Ferdinand and in diverse and forward thinking record labels like Warp, Def Jux, Rough Trade and DFA.

In 2008 film maker Matt Wolf released “Wild Combination” a documentary on Arthur Russell, which played to great acclaim at many of the major film festivals across the globe.  Check out the trailer below.

It’s been finally revealed that Wasalu Jaco aka Lupe Fiasco is indeed the lead singer behind post punk electronic outfit Japanese Cartoon! The band has released a new track entitled “All Sabotage” via their allsabotage.com website. Recent news on the band states they’ve been signed to Lupe Fiasco’s 1st & 15th record label and are set to release their 1st album sometime next year including live tour dates! The band consists of Wasalu Jaco (Lupe Fiasco), Graham Burris (the bassist from the Matthew Santos band) & streetwear personality Le Messie. This is indeed a band that we will be hearing a lot of come 2010.
