What’s 2010 going to be about for you? This year will definitely be about growth. As a young company we are looking to grow our magazine over the next two issues that are coming for March and September. We are about to open our own concession at Dover Street Market and we’ve also found a great space in Vancouver for our offices as well as an actual brick & mortar retail shop.
What are the worst trends in menswear today? It’s hard for me to pin point a certain trend that is the worst. There are still a lot of terrible looking products being made out there.
I think as a continuous trend, people need to be able to see more globally and not be naive in their view and approach to creative work. It seems to be the case mostly in North America that people don’t see outside of their own country or city, so I think having a more open mind moving forward would be a good trend. The other “trend” that needs addressing is poor customer service in too many stores and agencies.
Whats the best thing to come out of 2009 menswear trends? An obvious positive would be the overall trend in buying well made, classic products. These products do cost money and it seems that people are understanding what they are buying and why more than ever in North American at least – I think this has been the case in Japan and Europe for a while already.
What’s the must have item for any man in 2010? An oxford BD shirt – in about 12-15 colours. I think a great pair of moccasin shoes should be a staple as well; Ranger Moccs, Canoe Moccs, Ankle Moccs – they’re like an old friend in the closet that will always be comfortable and always look beautiful.
What’s your favourite thing about where you live? Vancouver is great for a lot of reasons. We’re slightly outside the confines of the “fashion world” so we can operate at our own pace and keep an outside perspective, which allows us to sit back and refine what it is that we actually really care about. Otherwise the weather has been amazing here, it’s been a beautiful winter and I’m sure the summer will bring some more sunshine.
What are you reading? The manual to my Canon F-1 SLR camera I just bought. That along with my google reader, Apartamento and FW10 catalogues…
What’s the next film you’ll watch? I’ve been kind of anxious to watch District 9 actually. I’ve heard lots of good things but I don’t usually have enough time to watch many films.
Your favourite store in your city? Right now I would have to say that Roden Gray is tough to beat. Their customer service is top notch and they have a lot of great product. Mr. Lee’s General Store is also great. It just opened last month and they’ve got a great mix of items merchandised very well.
Whats the best thing to come out of Blog Culture? Can I say my career? But honestly, the amount of information, images and content that can be found and shared is unbelievable. It’s transformed the media landscape and will continue to do so as blogging continues to grow and gain credibility. Besides just being able to learn and know so much more, I’ve made great friends and relationships through blogging and thats something special, and I know I’m not the only one to experience that in the last few years.
