Although it was released earlier this year, we feel it’s time to shed some light on a great documentary. The Legend of COOL “DISCO” DAN tells the tale of graffiti culture in Washington DC during the 1980s, as lived by graf legend and titular character, COOL “DISCO” DAN. Narrated by Henry Rollins, the documentary weaves archival footage with celebrity interviews to paint a comprehensive picture of the fledgling scene, and how it evolved in the following years. At the film’s center is COOL “DISCO” DAN’s personal life, which often saw him react negatively to his newfound stardom. Directed by Joseph Pattisall and executive produced by Roger Gastman (Exit Through the Gift Shop), the documentary is available for download and on DVD via its official site, with upcoming screenings scheduled in Chicago, Detroit and D.C.
