The latest update in the ongoing fight to keep the Southbank Center — the UK’s most iconic skate spot — alive might actually bear good news to the skate community. After the delivery of a 20,000 person petition, London mayor Boris Johnson expressed that he supports the Southbank Center’s plans for expansion, but only if those plans are not at the cost of the undercroft — the area used for skating. Following this statement, the Southbank Centre‘s board announced that they will be withholding their planning application for the Festival Wing, and will now “undertake a final search for an alternative funding model.” Sounds like good news, stay tuned for more.
