As part of their 50th anniversary celebrations Dr. Martens are working with ten modern day producers to get them to recreate their favourite tracks from the past.

One of the first track to see the light of day is LA electro funk don Dam-Funk with his cover of the Human League’s “Things that dreams are made of”. This is really exciting! “Things that dreams are made of” is one of my favourite tracks from the 80s and Dam-Funk is one of the best producers around today.  He hasn’t messed around with the original’s formula too much, just bringing out the funkier element of the 80s electro-pop original to show why it was a surprisingly popular track at hip-hop jams back in the day.

Other artists that have contributed so far include The Noisettes with their cover of The Buzzcocks “Ever fallen in love…” and The Duke Spirit with Sham 69s “The kids are united”.

Dr Martens have put together a pretty good line up together of establised and up and coming acts from the world’s of rock, dance and hip-hop.  Upcoming are songs from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Cinematic Orchestra, Buraka Som Sistema and the one I am also really looking forward too -  DOA and the MC5!

It’s a nice way to celebrate the brand’s longevity whilst reminding us of the the cultural heritage the footwear has with pretty much ever youth subculture in the last half decade.  Head over to the Dr Martens site where you can download the tracks for free, find out more about the artists and their inspiration, watch making of videos and check out images of the tracks being recorded.
