Anthony Micallef in L.A.
I first heard of Micallef just a few weeks ago, I immediatley looked up some of his work and overnight became a fan, I was actually doing some further research just yesterday and knew of his L.A. show so was pretty happy to stumble across Supertouch’s report on the Los Angeles ‘Pop Up Gallery’ launch on the corner of Hollywood and Highland. Micallef is considered by many as the new(next) Banksy, and is actualy managed by Banksy’s people, Jamie O’Shea ironically speaks of the high prices and great sell through rate at this show as a result of what he calls “The Banksy Syndrome.” The show is located in its own location, rather than an existing gallery space, to create further hype around the show, prices for his work start at $30,000 and its reported the paintings sold on opening night raised in excess of $1 million. If you’re looking to jump on the next big thing, then Anthony Micallef is it. Read more and view pictures from the show here.
Cant make it to the show? Heres the guided tour…(Thanks again to Supertouch).
