A little more than just your usual clothing brand or record label, LuckyMe is a family of djs, producers, vocalists, artists and designers based in Scotland who are involved in street culture at many different levels. Individually signed to a host of record labels including Ubiquity, Warp, Kindred Spirit, Beat Dimensions and Ramp, the members of LuckyMe form together to run clubs, host radio shows and tour with groups like Flying Lotus, Shape of Broad Minds and Dilla associate Phat Kat. Musically they cover many bases from hip-hop to techno, electro to soul, while on the graphics side LuckyMe art director Dom Sum also designs clothing for the Scottish streetwear brand Oddities and Japan’s Beams T. Tonight (Saturday 22nd) LuckyMe are hosting a launch party for their first release as a record label, Hudson Mohawke’s ‘Hudson Mohawke says Ooops!’, at Gramaphone in London’s East End. LuckyMe describe the record as ‘a sort of sophisticated hyphy / r&b bootleg record – but don’t let that put you off.’ With the entire limited edition pressing already sold out before the launch party, this is one you may want to check out while you still have the chance. Producer Rustie will also be playing to promote his new EP ‘Cafe de Phresh’, an experience you won’t want to miss if you heard his blinding & critically-acclaimed ’Jagz the Smack’ EP from last year. If you’re in London tonight then head down to Gramaphone at 60-62 Commercial Street to check it all out…
